The night road is blanketed in snow.
A lone girl walks it, shivering. As she makes her way to
her mother's with a few coins in her hand,
an odd lamppost ahead gives off a warming glow.

The warm light reminds her of her mother's hands.
When did those hands last run through my hair?
Clinging to the memory, the girl runs to the post.
It flashes brightly and envelops her in light.

The light brings happy memories. Warm stew. Kind words.
Her old pet dog. Her mother knitting by the light of
a fire. The post shines, and the girl
no longer feels cold.

The girl is found frozen the next morning.
It seems the post was a totem that stole memories and
turned them into light. But though she is gone,
her face is forever covered in a delighted smile.
