One day, a group of young men came to an all-knowing sorcerer.
They were all smitten with the most beautiful woman in town, and
each asked him how they could make her his lover.

The sorcerer said, "You will clean my house, forage for herbs,
and run 1,000 laps through town. I will teach whomever returns
first a spell to infatuate the woman."

The trial was bitter work, and the men soon realized that was
the point. For the sorcerer wanted them to rely on their own
capabilities, not his magic.

But when the men returned to thank the sorcerer, they found him
with the woman of their dreams, having bewitched her with a
potion he made from the herbs they gathered.
