There once lived a noble who built himself up from nothing.
But though he gained his wealth and position from untiring work,
the other nobles considered him an upjumped fool and
avoided him.

One day, a peddler arrived with a rare book and a mechanical rod.
The noble looked both items over carefully,
and though the price was great,
he bought them without a second thought.

The ancient book was written in a strange language,
and other nobles began whispering that the uneducated man had
been duped. They sneered behind his back,
and called him names to his face.

But he knew the book taught how to use the rod,
for he had learned the language during his days of poverty.
And when he realized he could use it to
kill every last noble, he began to smile.
