Stories

There once was a nobleman who collected all manner of
curios—weapons, armor, art, and whatever else caught
his eye. One day, a peddler came to him and
said he had a fine item in stock.
The peddler had a mechanical doll that did all manner of tasks.
At first, the nobleman refused, but he finally
decided to rent her for a spell, and soon found
himself enjoying her company.
Eventually, the peddler came to reclaim the rented doll.
But the lonely noble could not imagine parting with her,
so he paid the peddler a great deal of
money to keep her around.
The nobleman paid. And paid. And paid. He sold
his weapons and armor and art until, finally,
he took his own life. "You are a useful girl,"
chuckled the peddler as the doll returned to him.
