There was once an organization of ninja that served a shogun.
Assassinating enemy lords, silencing allies, executing
vengeance—these were their tasks, and no matter how difficult they
were, they always succeeded.

There was one woman in the organization. She chose the path of
the shinobi because she longed to be like her mother, who was a
skilled ninja. She also choose to wield twin blades in order to
better follow in her footsteps.

One day, she was ordered to murder her mother, who knew too
much to be left alive. And while a ninja cannot refuse a task,
she wailed as she did the deed, dulling her blows and causing her
mother great pain.

Afterward, she reforged her swords and her mother's into one
long blade. As if trying to run from it all, she tried to forget her
mother's dying face and swore on her sword that she would
always kill in a single blow.
