Stories

People's words resemble blades to me at times.
I look on as knives, cleavers, and scissors spill
from the mouths of others.
And that's why I was such a shy and quiet child.
People's words resemble blades to me at times.
I started seeing them less and less once I finished middle
school, and eventually I stopped seeing the metallic
glint from the mouths of others entirely.
When I grew up, I could no longer see the sharp edges of
people's words. Relieved, I became talkative, as though
reclaiming all the words I missed out on. A bit of malice is
necessary when making pleasantries. It sure beats being alone.
After I got married, I forgot all about the bladed words.
But I hardly lived happily ever after. My own child can't
stand me—whenever I open my mouth,
he looks at me like I've just pointed a knife at him.
